How to take care of lotus flowers

1. WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO PLANT LOTUS?

Lotus can be grown in pots, tubs, or ponds, but it’s essential to choose a sunny location for healthy growth and abundant blooms—ideally 6-8 hours of sunlight per day, the more, the better. Avoid planting lotus in areas without sunlight, as they will gradually wither and die.

2. CHOOSING THE VARIETY AND SOIL FOR LOTUS PLANTING

Depending on whether you’re planting in pots, tubs, or ponds, choose the appropriate variety of lotus. There are many types available for you to choose from based on your preferences. The best soil for lotus is pond mud; if pond mud is unavailable, you can use clay soil that has been soaked to soften it.

3. PROPER FERTILIZATION

Lotus is quite a hungry plant, so it needs regular fertilization, ideally every 7-10 days. The best care for lotus is to use organic fertilizers, which will make the plants more resilient.

4. REGULAR PRUNING AND WATER CHANGES

Remove wilted lotus flowers and old, unsightly leaves close to the base, while also removing algae and floating plants to keep the pot clear and reduce nutrient competition for the lotus. Change the water for the lotus every 3-5 days by pumping in fresh water to overflow, preventing the lotus from rotting and developing diseases.

5. PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL

Lotus can be affected by aphids and pests, so it’s important to regularly check the leaves and stems for early detection and thorough treatment.

While lotus flowers are easy to grow, neglecting these basic details can lead to poor flowering, small yellow leaves, or even death of the plant.
